Moms and Side Hustles

Start a Side-Hustle in 2022

In this unique time period in the world, it’s rare for working moms or stay at home moms to just have one job.

Many mommas have some kind of side hustle. How about you?

Do you have a side hustle?  If not, do you want to start one?  2022 is a great time to experiment with a side hustle that supports you and the life you want to live.

Why Side Hustles Work for Moms

Side hustles work so well for moms because you’re in complete control of your schedule.  You can work as little or as much as you like.  You can work on your hustle during your kids’ nap times or bedtimes.  There’s no boss to answer to besides yourself. The results you get are completely up to you!

The coolest part is that a side hustle can be as unique as you are.

Working a side hustle you’re passionate about is a great way to do something outside of the traditional day job and make some extra money to go towards, well, anything you want!

Types of Side Hustles

If you’d like to make some extra money, a side hustle might be just what you’re looking for.

Don’t know where to start? Here are some ideas:

  • Build a side hustle from something you’re passionate about. Whether you love to bake a delicious chocolate cake, organize a closet from top to bottom, or groom pets to make them sparkle and shine, you can probably find a way to earn money doing it.  Finish this statement: I am passionate about: ____________________.  Now, brainstorm a way to make money doing that thing. Don’t be afraid to start small and scale up as you go.
  • Find a need and provide the solution. Many side hustles arise from solving a problem in a unique way that others may have missed. You figure out a solution and provide that solution in exchange for money.  Start by looking for problems right in your own neighborhood.  Talk to people in your community and ask them what their pain point is.  Then create a solution (that they will pay you for) and provide it.
  • Sell your stuff. Can you find 10 things around your house that you no longer want, but could sell for cash? Boom- you have a micro- side hustle. Many online forums such as Facebook Marketplace and Poshmark make it easy to list your items today and start selling them immediately.

Side Hustle Resources

Disclosure: As an Amazon affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you.

Here are some of my favorite resources for starting or growing a side-hustle.  Two of them are created by the same person, Chris Guillebeau, who is known for his study of side-hustles from people all over the world.

Side Hustle Book or eBook by Chris Guillebeau.

This is seriously my favorite book on starting a side hustle.  Chris includes a ton of real-life examples of people who have created amazing side hustles with unique ideas I guarantee you’ve never heard of.

Even if you have no idea of what you could do as a side hustle, you will come away with a few new ideas just from reading this book.

He walks you through, step by step, how to build your own side hustle from the ground up in just 27 days.  If you check out no other resource, you’ve got to invest in this one!

Side Hustle School Podcast by Chris Guillebeau.

Along with the book, you should definitely check out Chris’s fun podcast, Side Hustle School. This podcast features different people and their side hustles.  New episodes are released daily and they are short (less than 10 minutes) and to the point. One of my favorite segments is Friday’s line-up: Failure Friday.  There’s so much you can learn from someone else’s failure in their side hustle.  You can search for this podcast and subscribe on any podcast platform.

48 Low or No Cost Business Ideas by Dan Miller (Digital download).

I’ve been following Dan Miller for a long time, and he always seems to have brilliant ideas for budding entrepreneurs.  This digital download is well worth the $18 cost, as it not only has great and unusual ideas for side hustles, but also includes a space for you to add your own notes and ideas. I’m currently going through this resource myself for the second time and already have some ideas I’d like to explore in 2022 for side hustles.

Arts and Budgets Blog – www.artsandbudgets.com

I discovered Latasha Peterson, founder of Arts and Budgets on Instagram and it seems like her content is blowing up!  She’s got so many great resources on side hustles, including courses and eBooks. She also has a free side hustle starter guide that you may want to check out.  If you don’t want to pay for anything, be sure to read through some of her fabulous blog posts for great ideas.

My Side Hustles for 2022

I’m so passionate about the topic of side hustles that I’ll be working on some of my own this year.  I already teach weekly voice and piano lessons, which has always been a pretty easy side hustle for me to do.  As a teacher, I am going to start releasing some online resources for other teachers to purchase and use.  And finally, I plan to make this blog part of my side hustle plan as well by offering amazing resources for amazing moms just like you.

I’ll keep you posted on how my different side hustles are going throughout the year!

A Side Hustle Resource Created for You!

I’m so excited to announce that I have created a new resource that works for any side hustle you might choose (multiple side hustles work too)!

Introducing the monthly Side Hustle Tracker chart. Using this handy chart, you can color in a “coin” each time you earn $20 with your side hustle. The chart allows you to track up to $960 from side hustle income in a single month.

Studies show that you are more motivated and more likely to succeed if you visually track your progress towards any goal you set.

This printable side hustle chart is the perfect visual cue you need to stay motivated as you work on earning extra cash.

Imagine what you could do with an extra $960 each month!

Would you:

  • Throw extra money toward your mortgage?
  • Pay off credit card debt?
  • Save towards a future beach vacation?
  • Go on an extravagant date with your spouse?

This side hustle tracker is the perfect tool for any mom bringing in extra income.

Here’s the best part: this tracker is totally FREE!  Simply put in your email address and I’ll send it right to your inbox.

I hope this post got the wheels turning for you of all the possibilities of a side hustle.  I have a feeling we will see an explosion of cool side hustles this year from moms just like you who want to have more freedom over what they do and how much they earn.

Do you have a current side hustle?  Or if not, what side hustle would you like to start this year? Tell me about it in the comments!
